At ANV, we provide industry-leading sound intensity measurement solutions for professional use to deliver accurate readings and inspections of noise. Whether you’re identifying problematic noise sources or calculating sound power in real-world environments, our equipment is designed to provide precise and accurate results.
Complete with intensity probe systems and on-site acoustic testing, our sound intensity equipment helps various sectors meet compliance standards, troubleshoot even complex noise issues, and perform detailed assessments. Our systems are designed to support a range of applications, making ANV a trusted name for sound intensity measurements.
A fundamental concept in acoustics, sound intensity refers to the rate of sound energy passing through a specific area, and is typically measured in watts per square metre (W/m²). Where sound pressure levels measure the fluctuations in air pressure at a single point, sound intensity captures both the magnitude and direction of sound energy flow.
It is this directional element that makes these measurements uniquely powerful for a range of applications. With this, these measurements can help determine not just how loud something is, but also the noise source itself.
This measurement is crucial for noise source identification and in situ sound power calculations, especially in acoustically complex environments. Unlike traditional methods, which may require a controlled lab or an anechoic chamber, sound intensity measurements can be taken on site, even if background noise is present.
With this in mind, these measurements are invaluable for product noise testing, machinery diagnostics, and troubleshooting noise problems. They can also accurately ensure compliance with both UK and EU noise regulations by providing precise readings.
The Norsonic Nor150 fitted with sound intensity option and the sound intensity probe kit Nor1290 is a powerful tool for sound intensity measurements. The system is compliant with IEC 61043 Class 1, and there is full on-board support for ISO 9614-1 and ISO 9614-2 sound power measurements.
The remote control handle, using a smartphone for measurement control and display, forms a lightweight and easy-to-use system which enables single-handed operation. The Smartphone communicates via WiFi with the Nor150. The sound intensity probe can also be connected directly to the Nor150.
It can be helpful to use the Nor850 Software Sound Intensity option when working with the data. The Nor850 Software provides intuitive visual tools for editing. It is possible to copy segments or surfaces, view intermediate results of a subset of segments, exclude segments, surfaces or bands. The measurement results can be up/downgraded between Survey/Engineering, and the weighted frequency range can be changed.
The Nor850 Software displays all the information as the Nor150, including the Scope Selector and all functions. In addition, the results are mapped onto a 2D/3D surface for noise mapping.
A typical application may be the case where a limited time did not allow for a full definition of segments before measurement. All measurements can be made on a single surface where the areas are not defined. By opening up the two measurement projects in Nor850, you can define a new total measurement surface and copy/paste each measured segment into the correct locations in the new project.
