The original 2009 version of BS 5228: 2 could be used to justify using PPV only for assessing the subjective effects of construction/demolition vibration. The notes added to Table B.1 in the 2014 amendment to BS 5228: 2 make it more difficult to justify not measuring VDV and carrying out an assessment in accordance with BS 6472:1.

The building damage vibration criteria in in BS 5228: 2 and BS 7385: 2 are not simply PPV levels. In order to measure in accordance with the current British Standards on the potential for building damage from construction/demolition vibration it is essential that some additional parameters are measured.
